Cattle on Trucks

April 8, 1982

A herd of cattle found themselves crowded in a truck near the packing plant. Most of them were hoping that the farmer who fed them would soon discover their problem, so he could return them to the feeding yard.

A steer was heard to wonder whether livestock farmers plan to put cattle on trucks.

“Shame on you,” said one of the heifers. “How ungrateful of you to say that, after all the farmer has done for you.  You are a prejudiced bigot.  No educated or civilized creature talks that way.  Such talk leads to stampedes onto open range, which injure many cattle and break the lovely fences.  Besides, we heifers have noticed that you steers are out of it in other ways!”
