God Laughs

September 18, 1981

Psalm 2 speaks of times when God laughs at the schemes
of men. This may be such a time.

Because of God’s bounty, farmers are preparing to harvest the largest crop in history. Because of men’s schemes, farmers do not feel secure.

For many years the farmer has been affected by the schemes of artificial money, manipulated markets, and income tax fictions.

In 1863, a friend of schemes predicted: “The few who understand the system will be so interested in its profits, so dependent upon its favors, that there will be no opposition from that class, while on the other hand, the great body of people...will bear its burden without complaint, and perhaps without suspecting that the system is inimical to their best interest.”

The prediction was correct.

As our Lord said, the people of this world are more shrewd than the people of light. The schemers knew that those who understood the system would be more interested in profits and favors than in honesty and general prosperity. They knew that some of us would prey upon the rest of us.

Such schemes cause laughter in heaven. May God forgive us.

We will be forgiven if we repent and turn to righteousness.

If we continue our schemes, we will devour each other.

Then we will hear, but not share, the last laugh.
